Elderly Care in Aventura FL
As a family caregiver, there are probably quite a few people in your life that you care a great deal about. But your responsibilities as a caregiver likely curtail your ability to spend as much time as you’d like with those people.
Invite Them Over
This is particularly helpful if you and your elderly loved one both know and care about the same people. There’s no reason that you can’t both spend time with someone, so it’s a good idea to invite those folks over. If your loved one can handle smaller groups better than larger ones, it’s best to only invite one or two people at a time. This is a great way for other family members and friends to be able to spend time with both of you.
Set Standing Appointments with Each Other
When you and your friends or other family members tell each other that you’ll set up a time to get together “soon,” you may want to rethink that. What happens more often than not is that soon gets away from you and it’s been months since you’ve seen each other. It’s a better idea to set standing “appointments” with each other so that you always know that those meetings are coming up and you can plan for them.
Keep in Touch Other Ways
You may also want to find other ways to keep in close touch with the people that you care about. There’s always social media, which can be a fast way to keep in contact, but there are also text messages, emails, phone calls, video calls, and even handwritten letters. Try a variety of methods to see which ones work the best for you.
Get Help Taking Time Away
Some family caregivers overlook time for themselves because they really don’t see how they can get away. If this is the case for you, you may need extra help in taking time for yourself. Work with other family members or your loved one’s elderly care providers to be available when you intend to go out. That way there’s someone with your loved one and you don’t have to worry or hurry home faster than you expected.
Work with your friends and family to figure out the best solutions for each situation.
