Home Care in Boca Raton FL
Watermelon is a definitely a favorite fruit during the summer months. It is in season and it tastes very refreshing. In addition, its high water content makes it a very hydrating food – a perfect snack for your loved one on a hot day. Watermelon is also a great source of the essential nutrients vitamin C and vitamin A. August 3rd is celebrated as National Watermelon Day, a great day to try out some fun and different ways to serve and eat watermelon. Of course, watermelon is delicious and nutritious on its own, but if you are looking to add some variety to your loved one’s meals, consider trying some of these fun ways to prepare watermelon.
Watermelon is traditionally used in fruit salad, and some may even use the watermelon rind to create a fun bowl for it. However, fruit salad isn’t the only salad that can contain sweet and juicy watermelon chunks. Watermelon works well with cucumber, red onion, tangy vinaigrettes, mint leaves, and even feta cheese to make a lively summer salad that is healthy as well as tasty.
For a refreshing beverage that is sweet, but still very healthy, try making a simple watermelon slush. This drink can be made very easily by blending watermelon chunks, a bit of sugar, lime juice, and some ice cubes in a blender. This is a wonderful treat to make your loved one on a hot day since it is very hydrating and refreshing. Pureed watermelon can also be poured into ice pop molds to make simple watermelon popsicles.
Fruit pizza is usually made with a sugar cookie crust and while those pizzas are certainly delicious, they contain large amounts of sugar and fat. Make a healthier alternative by slicing a watermelon widthwise so that you have 2 inch wide round slices. These will be the pizza “crust”. Spread some whipped topping on the round watermelon slices, top it with sliced fruit, and then slice it into wedge-shaped pieces. This watermelon pizza makes a wonderful and healthy summer dessert.
Melon Ball Salad
For a fun summer salad that is as fun to look at as it is to eat, use a melon baller to cut honeydew, cantaloupe, watermelon, and any other type of melon you like. Mix them together to make an unforgettable salad that is both attractive and delicious.
